An exhibit of health posters illustrating the enduring human
hopes and fears about our bodily well-being, and the age-old desire to cash in
on both, is described in a New York Timesstory
by Abigail Zuger. Enjoy the representation
of the ebullient old guy dancing in his night shirt after Uricure repairs his decrepit
joints. There is also a wonderful poster
of "Man as Industrial Palace”, showing a chamber in the upper part of the brain where
little men in suits and ties deliberate around a cerebral conference table
while menial workers operate physical system and solitary craftsmen in the bone
marrow department stamp out red blood cells. The museum collection, on display through July
31, was donated by William H. Helfand, a retired Merck executive and collector of
medical memorabilia.
