We are pleased to join Billings Clinic in announcing that Curt Lindberg joined the Billings Clinic staff as of June 1, assuming the role of director of a newly established Partnership for Complex Systems and Healthcare Innovation. Billings has been a leader in working to transform healthcare through its work on quality, patient safety, service, value and innovation and has been an important partner of Plexus Institute. We will continue to work with Billings Clinic and Curt in The Quality Commons and look forward to more opportunities to develop collaborative projects to further our mutual interests in leveraging insights from complexity science to support creative approaches to healthcare improvement.

The general goals for the Billings Clinic Partnership for Complex Systems and Healthcare Innovation will be to:

  • Support development of leadership, quality improvement, care delivery, value, patient safety and research practices throughout the Clinic by serving as a resource to Billings Clinic professionals;
  • Generate new applications of complexity science-informed processes on issues of importance to the Clinic;
  • Foster learning about complexity science and complexity-informed processes that impact change and transformation within the Clinic and with external partners;
  • Pursue research and publishing opportunities to stimulate learning and build national awareness of the accomplishments of the Partnership;
  • Establish Billings Clinic as a national learning laboratory for complexity and healthcare.

Curt has worked in healthcare for most of his career. He holds a master degree in healthcare administration and a doctoral degree in complexity science and organizational change. In his previous positions he served as vice president at Elizabeth General Medical Center, president of VHA of New Jersey, president and chief learning officer of Plexus Institute. For the last 15 years he has devoted his energies to introducing complexity science principles and practices into healthcare.

Please join us in congratulating Curt on his new adventure. Curt can be contacted on his cell (609)-647-9832 or at
