Event facilitated by Plexus Institute President, Lisa Kimball. Co-sponsored by Plexus Institute.
Rivers of Hope aims to provide US Government and other policy-related stakeholders with creative approaches to the challenges in the Himalayan/Tibetan Plateau watersheds from a complex systems perspective.
This roundtable – the first event in a larger Rivers of Hope initiative – brings together stakeholders dealing with a wide variety of issues relating to the Himalayan and Tibetan Plateau watersheds.
Our goals are to discover new possibilities for policy and action and to build new networks of potential partners by considering a bigger, more integrative picture beyond traditional stove-piped perspectives.
To that end, we will be addressing three questions:
1.What are the stories we tell ourselves - individually and collectively - about the issues, people, and places affected by and affecting the rivers of Asia flowing from the Himalayan and Tibetan Plateau mountains?
2.What new insights into possible opportunities and challenges do we discover when we explore linkages and interconnections across narratives?
3.What further activities in this vein would be useful for generating new approaches to this complex bio-social system-of-systems?
Please join Lester Brown (president, Earth Policy Institute), Geoff Pyatt (Deputy Assistant Secretary, South and Central Asian Affairs, Department of State), and others in this unique participatory dialogue.
