Guest: Robb Johnson and Chad Dingman

MP3 File

Robb Johnson is Director of Programs at the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, a national non-profit dedicated to strengthening the relationship between patients and their professional caregivers. The Schwartz Center's signature program, Schwartz Center Rounds®, has been adopted at more than 275 healthcare institutions in 36 states across the U.S. and in the United Kingdom.

Schwartz Center Rounds allow caregivers from multiple disciplines to come together on a regular basis to discuss the most challenging emotional and social issues they face in caring for patients. A comprehensive evaluation has shown that caregivers who attend multiple Rounds sessions feel more compassionate, less stressed, and more appreciative of the contributions of their colleagues. Rounds discussions have also led to changes in healthcare practices and policies. Click here to read about Kenneth B. Schwartz, the patient who began and inspired this program,.

Johnson holds masters degrees in public health and public administration from the University of Michigan and Harvard University, respectively.

Chad Dingman is a social worker at the Oncology Support Services Gibbs Cancer Center of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare in Spartanburg, South Carolina, who specializes in medical and radiation oncology. He earned a Masters of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Illinois and moved to South Carolina where he worked extensively with psychiatric and substance abuse patients in an inpatient hospital setting. He works now primarily with individuals and families who are struggling with a cancer diagnosis. For the past 18 months, Chad has co-facilitated Schwartz Center Rounds at the Spartanburg Regional/Gibbs Cancer Center. He is actively involved with the National Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP) as a co-chair for Survivorship and Palliative Care and serves as manager of Oncology Support Services. Chad is an avid triathlete and enjoys traveling with his family.
