Join our book club on Developmental Evaluation: Applying Complexity Concepts to Enhance Innovation and Use by Michael Quinn Patton (339 pages, 2011)
Developmental evaluation (DE) offers a powerful approach to monitoring and supporting social innovations by working in partnership with program decision makers. Patton draws on insights about complex dynamic systems, uncertainty, nonlinearity, and emergence. He illustrates how DE can be used for a range of purposes and provides essential guidance for making evaluations useful, practical, and credible in support of social change. (from Amazon)
To learn... To connect... To shift
"If you ever think you're too small to be effective, you've never been in bed with a mosquito!" - Wendy Lesko
Complexity science as a topic can seem daunting, however much of the literature is rich and surprisingly accessible/applicable to everyday life and business. This is an opportunity to learn how small, informed, thoughtful interventions can change big systems.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
This is an opportunity to connect with others who share an interest in complexity, innovation, and evaluation. Gathering with others and challenging our thinking can affect your life/work in surprising ways.
"No Problem was ever solvedat the same level of consciousness that created it." - Einstein
This is an opportunity to shift our thinking about evaluation, to allow for exciting innovation and problem-solving to occur.
The book club is organized and hosted by Liz Rykert of Meta Strategies and Erika Bailey of Erika Bailey Associates in partnership with Lisa Kimball of Plexus Institute.
The Plexus Institute book club will meet by phone on Mondays at 1pm ET once a week for 11-weeks to delve into each chapter of Developmental Evaluation. Commitment to attend every meeting is not required, but we ask that you rsvp your interest above.
