Stories Create Bridges for User Experience

From the broad scope of stories at work, we will zoom in to how stories can make user experience work more effective.

Whitney Quesenbery  and Kevin Brooks have authored a wonderful book, Storytelling for User Experience: Crafting Stories for Better Design. This teleconference will build on their experience. In this call, they will look at three ways stories can (or should) be an integral part of user experience:

  • Collecting stories to learn about people, culture and context – why, when, and how our products might serve them – and then sharing this understanding with the rest of the company in the form of stories and personas (a form of character sketch).
  • Generating and exploring design ideas, using stories to keep people (not technologies) in the center of our vision.
  • Testing those ideas to see if they make a good story that fits what we have learned about our users (or are they just a reflection in the mirror).
